Abstract:
Currently, the need for deeper work with the motivation of students to master the demands of tertiary education is an up-to-date subject, which is closely related to an increasing number of students who terminate their studies early, i.e. they do not complete their university education. The empirical research work, the subject of which is a variety of concepts and contexts of achievement motivation, including aspects of personality, implies that motivation is a driving force of the student´s behaviour and education, i.e. a factor that determines whether a student is willing to strengthen his/her will to overcome obstacles and manage the study demands. This means to want to study, to devote the time to self-study, to attend lectures and to engage in seminar discussions. Civil schools often do not admit that motivation is a factor, through which they can directly influence the students' study failures and, at the same time, reduce the high number of early school leavers. The situation in the field of support of students' study success in the Czech Republic, as in other European countries, is, to a large extent, a reflection of the surviving "elitist" concept of the role of universities. For the abovementioned reasons, the aim of the contribution is to identify the motivating factors, which affect coping with the study demands at the tertiary education level. The text answers the question: What is the motivation of students to complete their studies successfully? The study itself, which has emerged within the project solution for the organization development entitled “Development of Social Competencies of the Commander-Leader“ (LEADER DZRO K-104) at the Department of Leadership of the Faculty of Military Leadership at the University of Defence in Brno, has several uses in practice as follows: conceiving and realizing researches for the successful completion of the students´ study in selected military study programs and the procedures for the development of a motivational climate aimed at the study success at the University of Defence.
