Abstract:
The Ministry of Education (MOE) in the Maldives is embarking on an ambitious program of modernising its IT infrastructure aimed to deliver better quality and efficient services for its population. This paper focuses on the education sector of this project and explores the feasibility of introducing an intelligent business solution to support the services offered by this sector. A review of exiting theoretical framework and technological advances in Business Intelligence (BI) are considered. The findings of this paper suggests full integration into the e-Government system currently under construction. The authors recommended approach for achieving such integration is to adopt MS SQL Server running on the MOE database server with OLAP and an internet portal running on the foreground. The rationale and possible implementation mechanisms of this approach are also discussed. The entire project is underpinned and guided by the PRINCE2 project management principles with rapid applications development for customization of the software.
