Abstract:
The presented contribution provides information about the research activities of pedagogues and students of doctoral study programs at the Faculty of Education of the Palacký University in Olomouc. The issue of reading literacy is closely watched in the Czech Republic and increasingly discussed in the context of the development of other literacy skills in the Czech curriculum. Since 2017, primary school pupils have been monitored in the areas of reading literacy. It is a longitudinal research that monitors the reading competence of pupils from the 1st year of primary school. According to the current curriculum, the first intermediate evaluation period is the exit after the 3rd year of elementary school. The results of this investigation have already been published internationally. In 2021/2022, we focused on monitoring the reading competence of 4th grade primary school pupils in compatibility with international PIRLS research, in which the Czech Republic regularly participates. All literacy levels were tracked. The research tool was a self-constructed didactic test. Through statistical methods of quantitative research, established hypotheses were confirmed (rejected). The results of the individual items in the didactic test are interpreted in the present paper. 246 primary school pupils participated in the research. The research was subsequently supported by interviews with the teachers who participated in the research.
