Abstract:
The article deals with the comparison of results of Czech respondents in reading literacy in the international PISA and PIRLS surveys. The article compares the results of the survey from 2001 to 2018, where the last measurement was performed and seeks important points for explaining the differences between the results of 4th grade students (PIRLS surveys), in connection with the national curriculum, with the results of the research of fifteen-year-old respondents (PISA surveys) in the defined areas in the Czech Republic. These results are for education in the Czech Republic very important because the Czech Republic is a member of the European Union and the outputs of the level of education, according to the OECD, they should be comparable in order for Czechs to succeed in the EU labour market as well. Reading literacy is one of the transdisciplinary literacies that is indispensable in the Czech education system, but especially necessary for a successful life in today's international society. The development of reading literacy refers to the development of reading in the Czech language, but also in a foreign language. Keywords:
