Abstract:
Just like many other countries, the Czech Republic is involved in international research studies PISA and PIRLS focusing on the area of literacy. Especially in the area of reading literacy the results are slightly improving, but overall, the Czech Republic does not match developed countries in the area of education. For these reasons, Czech teachers try to engage children and students in various projects to support literacy in the Czech Republic, and thus strengthen their reading literacy and pre-literacy. The paper not only introduces a nationwide project entitled Every Czech Reads to Kids, but also interprets the results of a questionnaire survey carried out in 2016 across the whole of the Czech Republic, which monitored reading aspects among children in pre-primary education and students in primary education from the perspective of their teachers. The results will be compared with a similar research study conducted in 2013 among the same group of respondents, again from the perspective of teachers.
