Abstract:

This paper will document the process of implementing the new Learning Management System (LMS) Navigate in Intermediate accounting courses in the Bachelor of Science in Accounting program conducted in a one-course-a month format (normally for eight zoom sessions). An LMS helps design, develop, and provide e-Learning courses to faculty and students. At the university, classes are taught by instructors both online and hybrid for some locations (onsite classes twice a month from 6:00pm to 8:30pm, PT and the remaining six sessions are done online. Group-Based Faculty for all classes at the university transitioned to Navigate on November 24, 2025, for the December term. Initially, there were problems/issues encountered with the use of the new system. The process started with creating standard templates for each course. Integrating the new templates are either Shared or Copied.

In Shared, the course templates are integrated into the course with standard templates for the Contents – the instructors are not allowed to make modifications on the template. Contents to have a consistency in the delivery of the course and maintain quality for all courses. In Copied, the master templates are simply copied allowing the instructor to make changes both in the Content and other items in the course. After a series of zoom meetings and discussions, a decision was made to use the Shared version. This means that the instructors cannot make changes in the Master Template Contents. Only the Academic Program Directors and the Online Learning and Instructional Support (OLIS) can do the modifications.

Zoom meetings were conducted to familiarize users with the new LMS system. To help both faculty members and students, Frequently Ask Questions for students and Faculty were created. Instructors were given access to the class one month before the start of class. While the instructor cannot change Contents, there are items that the faculty can modify. Within Navigate, instructors have the ability to: Customize discussion prompts; Post Announcements (text, video, images, attachments, etc.), Manage dates (due dates, start dates, end dates); Add calendar items; Create intelligent agents; Schedule and record Zoom sessions; Provide grades and feedback (text, video, audio, inline feedback); Manage groups; View class list and class progress; Email from class list and grades; Release final grades. Tier 3-trained (Academic Program Director) APD and the OLIS can make any needed adjustments using advanced course editing permissions beyond the above-listed edits.

To date (December 2025 to February 2026) twenty-five accounting classes in the Bachelor of Science in Accounting program, group-based courses, have been successfully migrated to Navigate, the new unified Learning Management System (LMS). The goal is to assist in providing a system that provides standardized learning system to ensure that courses are delivered by faculty to students globally with the desired quality coupled with effectiveness and efficiency.
