INDIRECT MEASURES OF ASSESSING THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ACCOUNTANCY PROGRAM AT A PRIVATE AND NON-PROFIT UNIVERSITY IN CALIFORNIA

Abstract:
This paper will provide a three year experience (2012-2014) conducting indirect measure of assessing the Bachelor of Accountancy program of the second-largest, private, and non-profit university in California. Specifically, the indirect measures used were the Exit Survey and the Alumni Survey. The assessment of an accounting program should be designed to measure the extent to which that program has achieved its goals. One of the goals is to prepare students for entry in the accounting profession. Four relevant questions asked in the Alumni Survey were:
(1) “Have you been continuously working after graduation?
(2) How important is your degree from the university in helping you with professional advancement?
(3) Please indicate the extent to which you have been moving to your career goals.
(4) Please rate how strongly you agree that the Accountancy degree helped you develop the following competencies Program Learning Outcomes (PLO).

The Exit Survey questions included:
(1) Please rate how valuable each course was to the development of your ability in Accountancy.
(2) Please rate how strongly you agree or disagree that the Accountancy degree helped you develop the following competencies Program learning Outcomes (PLO).

The results of the surveys were indicative that the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy program has achieved its goals. Survey results were analyzed using descriptive statistics. .
