Abstract:

We live in a world where we daily get into contact with internet browsers part of which are bookmarks as well. This is a feature of an internet browser that allows you to save a website address and return to it at any time. Bookmark management is a relatively new concept of electronic technology and its origin and development have become a phenomenon of modern times over the last twenty years. The article is focused on bookmark management for students of the study program Electronic commerce and management. The paper consists of two main parts.

The first part characterizes the basic concepts related to bookmark management and types of applications for bookmark management. Part of the first part is the analysis of bookmark management abroad and in Slovakia. Most browsers like Google Chroome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Microsoft Edge and others allow you to back up your bookmarks. Social bookmarks, as well as bookmarks in a web browser, help the user to return comfortably to a page they have already found, but they also add a social dimension, they are necessary processes performed in a shared environment.

The aim of the second part is to design a procedure for selecting an application for bookmark management for a student of the study program Electronic commerce and management. There are presented results of the primary and secondary survey about the state of bookmark management. From the achieved results we can find out that for students the bookmark management is not a new topic, as they have already met with it. Most students use bookmarks for simplifying their work on the internet and also to save the favourite sites. We can assume that for most students are more sympathetic the use of internal applications to manage bookmarks.

At the end of the article, we have evaluated the achieved results and the proposal for the application for bookmark management for the student of the study program Electronic commerce and management. We focused on comparing the characteristics of internal and external bookmarking services. Choosing the right application for a student can be time consuming because each student prefers different criteria. At the same time, it may also depend on the popularity and usability of the application used by students. Factors such as simplicity, speed, storage size, and other features mentioned in the article can influence users in choosing the right bookmark management application. Based on the results of the study, we recommended students to use Google Chrome.
