Abstract:
From the results of the statistical survey about academic performance of students at Slovak universities is visible that students of the first year are the least successful, particular studying at technical universities. The success rate or rather non-success rate for some faculties of technical universities reaches more than 60% which is an alarming result causing considerable social and economic damage and therefore it deserves more attention. The aim of the paper is to highlight complexity of the root causes of high non-success rate of students studying first year at technical universities in Slovakia. The point of view to the problem area could be in terms of students and also in terms of teachers at technical universities. Materials for processing paper were obtained from students and teachers, one of the technical universities in Slovakia, while the method was used non-standardized questionnaire with closed and open questions and controlled interviews with students and teachers. The results of the questionnaire survey had been processed using conventional test procedures and statistical methods. On the basis of analysis paper proposed improvements of the existing problems. Because of the education complexity that process integrates all kinds of education, the proposed solutions are traversal in terms of both vertical and horizontal, and enable their implementation from the point of view of the existing state of fields of study after completion of the accreditation process in Slovakia.Keywords:
