Abstract:
Interdisciplinary STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education offers students an educational answer for today's world. By working interrelatedly with Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and also the Arts, students prepare for an interdisciplinary real world.
There is a marked gender gap in Science and Technology. On the occasion of the celebration of the week of women and girls in Science, a STEAM education session was held at Patriarca Obispo Eijo Garay School in Madrid (Spain) with the main objective of bringing Science (and other STEAM disciplines) closer to girls and boys in Primary education, using natural resources from the school garden, awakening scientific curiosity.
Patriarca Obispo Eijo Garay School has a garden in its facilities and the natural resources that this teaching tool offers were used for the development of the STEAM session developed. In addition, the importance of caring for the environment and nature, the environment in general and the garden in particular, was worked on. The methodology used was a mainly participatory methodology, highlighting cooperative learning. The results were recorded in writing in responses from the girls and boys of the 3rd Primary class after completing this STEAM session.
Interdisciplinary STEAM education is necessary nowadays because it enables our girls and boys for the professional world, which is also interdisciplinary; in short, it prepares them to create a better prepared, more equal and therefore more just world. Keywords:
