Abstract:
Seville University has been offering a training programme of novel teachers for more than a decade. Such programme has been divided into two years. In the first year of initiation, pedagogical and methodological contents are studied. The second year is one of consolidation, where an action plan is carried out in the classroom. The programme counts with the help of specialists in pedagogy as well as mentor professors belonging to the same area of knowledge of the novel teachers.

The participation in this training programme is absolutely voluntary, which leads to formulate the following question: if the study of a specific master is necessary to work as a teacher of Compulsory Secondary Education, is it logical that a University teacher is not forced to get pedagogical training?

To give response to this question, a survey was carried out. The participants were novel and mentor teachers involved in the training programme, teachers who had not had the opportunity to take part in it and the students. Once the answers were analysed, the participation in this sort of programmes was considered essential although a series of changes was proposed. Moreover, the necessity of a formative and continuous training in all the aspects related to teaching methodology was highlighted.
