Abstract:
The knowledge of foreign languages in a social environment is vital. Not only can it benefit youth in communicating and interacting with others, but also finding dream jobs in the labor market. Wide range of story making activities may facilitate both productive and receptive skills, as they can maintain the growth of vocabulary, memorizing and implementing new grammar structures in written and oral speech.
The aim of the article is to explore various interactive ways of story making particularly in English and Chinese languages, to examine the importance of such techniques among technical and pedagogical university students while teaching foreign languages in classes and observe the perceptions of such teaching methods by young adult learners.
To reach these goals, several tasks were set: to demonstrate crucial features of story making while learning foreign languages, to reveal the important role of such interactive tasks in teaching in higher education, to present numerous techniques and strategies of story making tasks.
Information sources were examined thoroughly, as well as this wide range of scientific and methodological literature was relatively studied. Correspondingly, data was collected from university students where four bachelor degree groups, two controlled and two experimental, were involved in a project to be assessed in both English and Chinese languages.
In April and May of 2023 an experiment was held by teaching them the languages implementing various story writing techniques, to explore whether given grammar, vocabulary is fully used and how well they managed to improve their writing skills. Moreover, this experiment was also dedicated to analyze whether this approach will be helpful to keen students' speaking skills by maintaining them to memorize new words and grammar structures easily. The last but not the least, questionnaire sampling survey was conducted to see their views concerning this interactive method.
Story making is regarded as being one of those interactive tasks which can have a great impact on students' learning process due to its productivity and variety.
Creating stories in classrooms encourages university students' imagination, helps to explore other cultures, traditions and teaches them about the world. Narrating, listening to and participating in stories also develops a range of linguistic, psychological, cognitive, social and cultural skills.
The research findings allow us to deliberate the students’ views and relations towards story making activities in learning foreign languages, as well as this it makes obvious to notice which techniques were particularly well utilized by Chinese and Russian groups. Keywords:
