Abstract:
It is common knowledge that technology is the key components of language teaching. As an important actors of language teaching classrooms, coursebooks have been exposed to new changes recently. Software is one of the most interesting features of the new generation coursebook. Almost all coursebooks are designed with an additional software and instructors can use it in classrrom instead of traditional coursebook. In this paper, effectiveness of using software as a coursebook is investigated and success of both coursebook and software is compared via questionnaires, interviews and analysis of students’ exam marks. Results revealed both students and instructors are the admirers of using software in English courses. Furthermore, comparison of exam scores before and after the software shows that the software is more effective in equipping students with the skills necessary to survive in a university context.
