Abstract:
The CSSP is an independent scientific non-profit institution affiliated to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Alexandria, Egypt. Its mission is to become the nation’s premier force for the dissemination of scientific knowledge by being a model for good practice, advice, resources and materials and for the delivery of needs-based quality skills training for scientists and researchers.

Committed to the development of quality science and the acceleration of new technologies; the CSSP aims to:
- Create a network of international collaboration and partnerships with other centers, and elite institutions
- Support activities that enhance career progression
- Sponsor scientific research projects
- Promote science and technology through several awareness programs

Since 2004, the CSSP launched the BioVisionAlexandria biennial conference which acts as a key player in building bridges and fostering dialogue. BioVisionAlexandria represents a unique opportunity for North-South collaborations by bringing in new scientific knowledge to the South. It gathers more than 2000 participants as well as 150 distinguished keynote speakers, Nobel Laureates, eminent scientists, ministers, and CEOs of several national and international companies.

The CSSP is also hosting the Arab Regional Office of The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries (TWAS-ARO) since 2005. Each year the CSSP through the TWAS-ARO provides awards and prizes to Arab scientists who contribute to the advancement of science and technology in the Arab region.

In addition, the CSSP supports outstanding young postdoctoral Egyptian researchers who perform cutting edge research and undertake collaborative investigation approaches across the science and technology spectrum, by offering them postdoctoral research grants as well as help them establish connections with Egyptian and international scientists as well as researchers. So far, forty eight researchers have been granted since 2005.

Besides, the CSSP organizes a number of workshops and lectures each year covering an array of career development skills, with special focus on scientific research and development. The Visiting Scholar Program; where an international scholar visits the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) for a certain period of time, with the aim of disseminating and exchanging knowledge with other scholars, researchers and students working in the same field of expertise; helped hundreds of scientists.

The Researchers Guidelines Training Program raised the researchers skills through the training it offers on the principles of scientific project management, such as project planning, steering and controlling and team building ideology.

Furthermore, the CSSP hosts many scientific projects to encourage awareness and promote scientific excellence. One of the projects is TEMPUS EduCamp (Education for Sustainable Development beyond the Campus); the first initiative in Egypt that brings universities and schools together in a structured mechanism. It aims to promote the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the Egyptian society.

The CSSP through its activities shared in improving higher education and promoting science and technology in Egypt.
