Abstract:

Introduction:
Civilization is arts, traditions, culture, and historical heritage that characterize a group of people in a specific era. In a broad sense, it is everything that distinguishes a nation from another. Customs and traditions; to adhere to religious and ethical values that flourish, the ability of humans in every civilization is also to innovate in arts, literature, and science. Therefore, the responsibility of the educational and cultural institutions is to preserve those cultures for subsequent generations and develop strategies to take advantage of them as models based on studies conducted.

The traditional civilization of the Arab world co-exists in separate regions; the Mediterranean, the Maghreb, the Fertile Crescent, and the Arabian Peninsula (consisting of southern Iraq, Jordan, Gulf Countries including the United Arab Emirates(UAE)). These regions have similarities and differences in their culture and traditions, which then influences their interiors and architecture.

Research problem:
The research problem lies in the lack of innovative elements of interior design that are supposed to coincide with the modern lifestyle. These elements depend on the identity of the endeavor from the traditional civilization of the states of the Emirates, the modest life, customs, and the simplicity of the Emirati lifestyle, which is one of the cultures that originated from a period that has barley just passed and is very much still alive in the Emirati conscious. The used materials were derived from nature, and the interiors were characterized by sitting on the ground without furniture (Bedouin sitting).
Additionally, the lack of innovative’ outputs from these elements is the scarcity of designers, which addressed the Emirati style as an idea for their innovative designs, especially the graduates of interior design programs. They should get training by specialized professors through courses that deal with study in local civilizations. The motivation is to produce contemporary designs throughout those courses taught by, along with preserving the identity of the culture.

Research Goal:
The research aims to contribute to laying the foundations for the design and setting the standards to create futuristic elements inspired by the identity and traditions of the Emirati style and essence, given the rapid development of the Emirati society and the urgent need to benefit from these designs in touristic projects that wish to reflect the identity of the Emirates.
It also aims to have, as a necessity, educators skilled to build learning environments to foster the students’ awareness in the design curricula, developing their skills in practicing the application of the study the local civilizations, and to produce a trained new generation of designers capable of creating design creations inspired by the cultural heritage of the UAE.

Research Methodology:
The research relies on developing the teaching methodology in the courses of “Interiors in the UAE.” It will focus on the analytical study of the architectural and decorative elements of the traditional heritage of the UAE to reach the roots, source, and proportions of all the aspects of the proposed models. These elements are decorations, arches, columns, and doors from the culture and tradition. To take in consideration as a basis in the future design, creating new aspects of interior design that align with the modern perception of the Emirati society and preserve its essence.
