Abstract:
Educational facilities play a central role in shaping children’s early development. Among these facilities, kindergartens represent the first structured learning environments in which children are introduced to basic academic concepts, social interaction, and creative exploration. A well-designed kindergarten environment can support cognitive growth, encourage curiosity, promote independence, and foster emotional development within a safe and stimulating setting. In contemporary educational discourse, the physical learning environment is increasingly recognized as an active component of the pedagogical process, influencing children's engagement, behavior, and learning outcomes.
This research investigates the design evolution of kindergarten environments in the United Arab Emirates and examines the feasibility of integrating artificial intelligence technologies within early childhood educational spaces. The study explores how interior design strategies and emerging digital technologies can collectively support innovative pedagogical approaches, adaptive learning experiences, and future-oriented educational environments. As educational systems worldwide increasingly integrate artificial intelligence into teaching and learning, spatial design must also evolve to accommodate new modes of interaction among children, educators, and intelligent learning systems.
The research methodology includes site analysis, user analysis, a review of educational design standards, and an examination of international case studies on advanced learning environments. These analytical stages enable the project to identify the functional, spatial, and technological requirements for developing an AI-supported kindergarten model. The investigation also examines the relationships among learning technologies, spatial organization, safety considerations, and the psychological comfort of young learners.
The project was selected to explore new approaches to early childhood education by integrating AI-driven learning tools into thoughtfully designed interior spaces that encourage creativity, engagement, and emotional well-being. As the UAE continues its shift toward digital transformation in education, the proposed kindergarten design supports the objectives of the UAE Centennial 2071 vision by promoting future-ready learning environments. The project also responds to the increasing demand for interactive, flexible, and safe educational spaces that reflect Emirati cultural identity while embracing global technological innovation.
The study also demonstrates how project-based learning in interior design education can address emerging technological trends in educational environments. Developed as a graduation project at Ajman University, the research illustrates how interior design students can engage with real-world educational challenges by integrating environmental psychology, technological innovation, and evidence-based design strategies. By linking spatial design with artificial intelligence learning systems, the project highlights the pedagogical value of interdisciplinary design education in preparing future designers to contribute to evolving educational environments.Keywords:
