Abstract:
Technology in the education system has become a vital means of inculcating knowledge to the learners in this post covid-19 era. Stakeholders in education have been exhibiting their concerns on how to improve the effective use of technological devices in teaching and learning in Nigeria. The use of multimedia devices in Nigerian Secondary Schools seems to be ineffective regarding the poor achievement of Economics students. Moreover, the relevant works of literature on the utilization of multimedia devices in classroom instructional delivery in the Nigerian context are lacking. Therefore, this study explored teachers’ perspectives regarding the utilization of multimedia devices in teaching and learning Economics in Nigerian Secondary Schools. This study adopted a descriptive survey design. A sample of 86 Economics teachers was purposively selected from Nigerian secondary schools. A 40-item questionnaire was constructed by the researchers. The questionnaire was validated and proven to be reliable. Mean and percentage were used to analyze the data collected. The findings revealed that teachers have positive perceptions of the use of multimedia devices in the teaching of economics but rarely use multimedia devices in teaching and learning Economics. Moreover, the findings also revealed that the power supply in most Nigerian Secondary Schools is an epidemic that hinders the effective use of multimedia devices in teaching and learning Economics and most government schools do not have sufficient multimedia devices for effective teaching and learning. The recommendations among others are that seminars should be organized for Economics teachers on how to use multimedia devices in teaching and learning. Secondly, solar energy should be installed in Nigerian Secondary Schools to maintain stable power. Keywords:
