Abstract:
Often, when organizations look for selecting a new executive, the choice is not based on the technical qualification or skills rather primarily focus on the managerial qualifications of the candidates. In view of the selection criteria, the concept of this research paper revolves around a simple question: “Why an Engineering qualification is not enough to become an organizational executive?” During the research the Engineering professionals were compared with the other most renowned professions like Doctors, Pilots and Managers. Comparison sheds light on their academic profile vis-à-vis the perks and privileges they enjoy in their respective organizations. To support the research work, various organizations from different sectors were studied for their organizational structure with specific emphasis on the position of an engineer and his highest possible rise in an organizational hierarchy. At the end the research suggests ways and means to engineering professionals for potential career advancement to the highest level in their organization.
