CROSS-CULTURAL AND LINGUISTIC INTERACTION IN THE CONTEXT OF TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND MINIMISING STUDENTS’ MISTAKES

Abstract:
Culture and language are strongly interconnected, more than that, foreign language is an important bridge between cultures. It opens the door to other countries, so the learner can cross the borders and integrate to the life and culture of the foreign countries’ society. The importance of studying foreign languages in the modern world influences the existence of the high level of interest to studying foreign languages.

The language of any nation is its historical memory, embodied in the word. Language reflects reality, culture is an integral component of reality. Therefore, language is simply a reflection of culture.

Each person belongs to a certain national culture, including national traditions, language, history, and literature. Economic, cultural and scientific contacts of countries and their peoples make relevant topics related to the study of intercultural communications, the relationship of languages ​​and cultures, the study of linguistic personality.

In the course of teaching foreign languages, these two areas enter into interaction, which includes several aspects. These aspects are the focus of the article.
Firstly, it is teaching students to understand the importance of the cultural characteristics of the country whose language they are learning. Many students mistakenly believe that language is only a profitable tool that will help them in the future to communicate with native speakers, however, they forget the above - language and culture are connected and one leaves an imprint on the other.

Secondly, the authors show how students' own cultural traditions lead to a misunderstanding of the language and culture of the countries of the language being studied.

Thirdly, the authors emphasize the need to study not only the language itself, but also the history of its formation, because the language is a reflection of the people over their own traditions, way of life, beliefs, and the political structure of the state.

The article pays special attention to the cultural and political concepts of West-East, North-South, since these separators have a strong influence on the cultural and linguistic characteristics of countries, which must also be taken into account when teaching and learning foreign languages.
In addition, the authors consider the topic of the influence of the language on the behavior of its speakers, their facial expressions and gestures, abilities and inclinations, thinking, etc.

In writing this work, the authors resort to their own pedagogical experience, studying the topic in the course of observing their own students. Thus, the article is not only a scientific study, but also has the features of describing the practical conclusions of teachers on the above range of issues.
