Abstract:
Technologies advancements have drastically changed the educational environment opening unthought of opportunities for self-study and knowledge acquisition. The fast-paced development of information and communication technologies has led to the increased opportunities for gathering, storing, processing and retrieving information in all spheres of knowledge.

The trends in information development processes globally bring up the question of the mission of higher education dealing with the current needs of the knowledge society. Environment is being created where attitudes and capabilities for knowledge self-acquisition, individuality and creative potential are formed.
There is the need for specialists with developed intellectual qualities, high mobility of knowledge and adaptability to the working conditions, but also a capability of self-study and professional development.

Involvement of more university teachers in the idea of building a comprehensive philosophical concept for the development of the education of archival and documentary specialists that is not influenced by casual, insignificant factors but pursues the achievement of continuity between traditions and innovative thinking in the process of training, will create the conditions for sustainability and development of a competitive and educational environment.

In our aspirations to be part of a new type of education system that implements the idea of “Training that trains professionals with the potential for effective realization and development in the context of the knowledge society”, we set ourselves the high goals of permanently building and maintaining an innovation environment, creating an environment that responds to the dynamically changing demands of society.

The current paper aims to present opportunities for inclusion of students in project activities. The idea of motivating undergraduate students of the specialty “Archival and Documentary Studies” at the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies (ULSIT), Bulgaria, by participating in projects, enables in real environment to implement knowledge learned by students and is a good way of increasing the activity and a positive change in students’ attitude towards the learning process by realizing their own role and the importance of the efforts made to achieve real results and accumulation of experience required for their future professional realization. The paper is based on examples of work on the project “Information Portal for Archival-Documentary Heritage of the Bulgarian Revival”.
