Abstract:
Online learning solutions have been widely adopted by numerous educational institutes and organizations to facilitate delivering education to learners around the world. Online learning is becoming an inseparable part of the world’s education systems due to the distinctive rise of e-learning as well as the rapid growth of technology and its positive effects on education quality and accessibility. The effectiveness of online education strongly depends on the learning environment in which students interact with the learning material, their classmates, and instructors. Significant research and development (R&D) have been conducted by service providers to design modern online learning environments such that they will be endorsed and welcomed by the students as the most important user group. These efforts have mainly focused on understanding students’ needs, learning styles, and learning patterns to provide them with an interactive, engaging, and supportive learning environment. Nowadays, artificial intelligence (AI) and data-driven solutions sit at the heart of most modern solutions that pursue adding value by making sense of data. They have transformed many sectors, including education, in the past decade. When implemented purposefully, AI and machine learning have huge potentials to aggregate, curate, and personalize the learning experience and content to realize online education at its finest. In this paper, we present several data-driven features to enhance online learning environments. These features are the results of the R&D conducted by the TechClass AI Department to realize the next generation of TechClass Smart Online Learning Environment. Each feature has passed through a research phase to be able to be designed in a way that can fulfill a major online learning-related purpose. These features are also implemented and tested in the development stage, the results of which are reported as a baseline for further R&Ds and improvements.
