IDENTIFICATION OF SIMULATED HEALTH MANAGEMENT EDUCATION METHODOLOGIES
A large majority of healthcare systems throughout the world are facing increasing demand due to an aging population and an increase in the incidence of various chronic diseases. This background provides an ever-growing challenge of managing the various types of finite health resources. This requires highly trained healthcare professionals. The skills required are usually acquired over a period of many years of being employed in the health industry. The application of University programs supports the education process in providing the necessary knowledge of key concepts and theories. However, health management education based on simulated learning has the potential of providing a deeper level of learning. The underlying education concepts of experiential learning and social cognitive theories suggest that simulations have the ability to provide concrete experiences with learners being able to identify knowledge gaps. It provides a safe environment for students to overcome challenges and work in individual areas. While the underlying health management skills have been identified, the challenge of identifying and developing an appropriate simulated environment remains. This poster focuses on identifying the various types of simulated learning environments available to support the education and training of healthcare managers.
