Abstract:
The aim of the study is to design an innovation of educational standards from the cross-sectional curriculum of the subject Protection of Life and Health at Slovak High Schools. The study also responds to the current urgent need to innovate educational standards and the creation of digital teaching tools for online education in connection with the global pandemic of Covid-19, but also to the need for continuous modernization of education. Nowadays, there are no textbooks or books that address the issues in the cross-sectional curriculum of the subject Protection of life and health. In high schools, there are situations when the management of high schools is not clear what should be the content of individual topics recommended by The National Institute for Education. The issue is compulsorily taught at high schools and is implemented through the subjects of The National Institute for Education program in the form of exercises and courses. Surveys show that in some high schools, Life and Health Protection Courses are not organized at all or are inconsistent with the content focus. The results show that there are significant shortcomings in the implementation of courses and a low level of knowledge of students in the monitored areas. We decided to conduct a questionnaire survey at high schools focused on the realization of courses at selected high schools. We applied a knowledge test to determine the level of knowledge in the field of Protection of Life and Health. Based on the findings of the questionnaire survey, the article points out the shortcomings and suggests areas for innovation of Life and Health Courses that will be modern and interesting for high school students. We assume that with these changes will improve the level of knowledge in the monitored areas. The solution is the innovation of the content of educational standards, the digital textbook and teaching texts for high schools focused on the issue of Protection of Life and Health.
