Abstract:
In 2014 the National Library of Latvia inaugurates its new building: the first public building constructed in the independence period after the fall of iron curtain and the Soviet Union.

The building is equipped with the most modern technologies - hardware and software - and its employees need to be ready for both - working with the technologies themselves as well as - serving their users.

In order to be ready for the new situation, two years ago the National Library of Latvia initiated the lifelong learning project “Effective Training Tools Application to Qualification Improvement in the Library Sector”. During the project the employees of library are trained to become the trainers of other employees to develop of skills for work in the new building with the new resources.

The main aim of the project is to develop training opportunities for employees of libraries - librarians and those professionals whose job duties need IT skills increasing their qualification and making the qualifications of employees of libraries more responsive to the needs of the labour market and innovations in ICT and training methods. The improvements of qualification will be based on quality increasing of existing training tools and methodology as well as on development of new instruments. Studies will be organized in several modules to allow each in-service student to choose knowledge and qualifications that suit the real needs of their roles in their work places. It supports the linkage to European priority - encouragement of cooperation between VET and the world of work.

The presentation will focus on trainers’ training concept development and its implementation.
