Abstract:
How can we efficiently use the unique possibilities of digital narrative media to provide interesting, modern and attractive acquirement of knowledge? How do different types of interactive media and their expressive resources help your audience better understand the subject of your program and truly be useful to them?

In this paper we discuss the unique opportunities of various types of interactive narrative media (computer and video games, interactive TV, interactive cinema, web-based narrative media, virtual reality, augmented reality games, mobile applications, locative media, etc.), taking into account the characteristics of the learning experiences. We address some examples of contemporary interactive narrative with particular focus on our own experience in this field, which was carried out in the Interactive Art Department of Saint-Petersburg State University of Cinema and Television.
We then focus on analyzing the educational uses of web-based documentary forms and explore the effectiveness of expressive means of digital environment, as well as the narrative structure and the level of interactivity to enhance student’s knowledge and skills.
