Abstract:

This work focuses on the development and implementation of virtual laboratory designed to simulate complex analytical experiments. The virtual laboratory was developed in a 3D format to introduce students to a virtual and controlled environment that allowed them to carry out experiments related to the contents explained in the Food Analysis subject.

The development of the virtual environment followed rigorous four phases:
1. Search for information and references on diverse fields, including informatic tools to be used and the characteristics related to virtual environments and video games.
2. Analysis and definition of requirements to be met by the virtual laboratory based on the practical contents of the subject of Food Analysis.
3. Design and implementation of the virtual laboratory, considering among other aspects the functions of the engine or development environment, the creation of the graphical interface, user controls and network interface.
4. Testing, including bug identification and user satisfaction evaluation.

By integrating high-fidelity multimedia content, the platform aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical chemical principles and practical execution. Thanks to these developments, students carried out experiments that complement the learning in the subject of Food Analysis, present in the Degree in Food Science and Technology. This experience provided a close approximation to situations experienced in a real working environment, while reducing the costs and challenges normally involved in this type of practical training.
