Abstract:
Computer labs were introduced in Brazilian schools during the 1990s and were followed by the educational laptops initiative, part of the UCA Project (one PC to every student). The recent arrival of Mobile Wireless Technologies ( MWT, such as tablets and smartphones) in schools bring new possibilities for teaching and learning practices in primary education. In this article, we present a strategy to teach the scales concept using MWT and Google Maps. In order to organise the pedagogical activity we have created the concept of Digital Learning Situation which indicate the stages and characteristics of such activity. A digital learning situation consists of three steps that must happen not necessarily in this order: 1. Access, understand, analyze and select information in digital technological tools (computers, tablets, laptops, smartphones, graphing calculators, etc.) within the study context . 2. Solve problems within the study context using digital technology tools. 3. Share the results through written, oral and digital communications.
