Abstract:
This paper offers a contribution to knowledge in the practical application of multi modal resources through the lens of lecturer’s use and perceptions of asynchronous learning resources and methods which is an underexplored area. It does so via a case study of a Lifelong Learning Department within an Irish University. Whereas there is a significant body of literature on asynchronous, blended, and flipped modality of teaching-learning, few studies look into teachers’ perception of asynchronous resources and their varied modalities to support teaching-learning interactions. The data is taken from two focus groups which included twelve academics teaching solely in an online learning environment to adult learners. The results suggest that there is an eagerness from academics to develop a strong platform of multi modal resources and innovative pedagogies anchored in a supportive community of practice orientated to staff development.
