Abstract:
Educational courses aimed at promoting responsible parenting and effective parenting are considered a common component of prosocial engagement by educational institutions (Barlow, McMillan, Kirkpatrick et al. , 2008; Stewart-Brown, Schrader-McMillan, 2010; Garcia, Frunzi, Dean, Flores, & Miller, 2016; Gadsden, Ford, and Breiner (eds.), 2016; Lindsay, Totsika, & Breiner (eds.), 2016; Lindsay, Totsika, & Breiner, 2017). In Slovakia, they are implemented by accredited educational entities from the environment of non-profit organizations that focus on awareness and education on civically responsible behavior and social benefit (e.g., Union of Maternity Centers, Institute of Mental Health and Wellbeing, Hope for Children, School of Parenting, etc.). The aim of the study is to identify and analyse opportunities for accredited education for young people in the area of parenting support. We build on the findings of the grant project Transformations of Family Education and Parenting Education in Slovakia (VEGA 1/0484/21), in which a questionnaire was distributed and semi-structured interviews through focus groups were conducted in the different research phases. Through a qualitative research design, we want to build on the findings so far by comparing selected educational courses for parents, focusing in the process of content analysis of the documents on the comparison of curriculum content, objectives, methods, gender aspects and other selected factors with regard to the structure of the methodological materials.
