Abstract:
One consequence of gender inequalities, gender stereotypes, and gender segregation in the labour market is that the predominance of one gender automatically implies a change in the perception of the profession. An ultimate social construct of such a perception is the feminization of that profession. A typical example of gender segregation in the labour market is in the education sector, where a specific feature of these professions is their horizontal (occupational) and vertical (hierarchical) segregation. The aim of the present study is to highlight some selected consequences of the feminization of the education sector in Slovakia from the perspective of social pedagogy as environmental pedagogy. As an output of the “Multidisciplinary Aspects of the Feminization of Education” research project, it identifies and analyses the impact of the increasing feminization of education on the climate and quality of the working environment in Slovak schools through various theoretical discourses, research methods, and other instruments of the relevant social sciences and humanities disciplines (e.g. social pedagogy, philosophy, sociology, history, and psychology). Investigating the feminization of education in Slovakia is part of forming a comprehensive description of the factors of the attractiveness of working in the education sector. Keywords:
Feminization of education, working conditions at schools, gender inequalities, gender segregation, the attractiveness of working in the education sector.
