Abstract:
This article outlines a novel approach towards increasing the engagement and motivation of university level entrepreneurship students within a creativity and innovation module. It is widely accepted that due to the idiosyncratic needs and goals of different learners, that a one-sized fits all pedagogical approach is not recommended. In fact, if taken it could well lead to unintended and detrimental consequences. Instead, it is believed that we need to empower each student to meet, and indeed surpass, their own potential which will ultimately be based on their individual circumstances and desires. Through the use and adaptation of a tool that is widely applied in the field of business strategy – The Value Proposition Canvas – and implementing it within an educational context, we are provided with the apparatus that allows learners to gain a deeper understanding of their personal learning journeys. At the same time, it also affords the educator with a means to clarify and track their understanding of the students, meaning that activities can be adjusted, tailored and optimised in dynamic fashion to suit each student´s own particular pathway. The development of a “learner profile” can also be generalised and leveraged to create more purposeful learning environments in a diverse range of contexts from MBA to secondary education level.
