Abstract:
The research aims to establish the influence of formal-informal contextual alternation on the communicative skills of the learners in a scripted role-play Business-English teaching model transferrable to English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Currently most textbooks offer English for Specific Purposes Courses based entirely on the formal contextualization of learning and teaching materials. The research paper elaborates on the theoretical underpinning of the formal-informal contextual alternation in the textual materials for learning and teaching ESP, focusing on the importance of formal and informal contextual complementarity in the design of role-playing sessions for teaching and learning ESP. The holistic character of the model will be traced by drawing analogies between context and love in a drama-based model for teaching and learning ESP. This examination aims to serve as a theoretical support for the plausible introduction of the informal context in the design of textual materials for learning and teaching ESP.
