Abstract:
Case-based Learning (CBL) tends to be one of the newest trends in the present-day education. By using CBL, educators manage to make the learning/teaching environment more engaging, more comprehensive and more motivational. CBL helps students to better understand, synthesize and analyze information and knowledge they have. It also reveals to students what their strengths and weaknesses are. CBLs are especially popular in Medical Education and medical students generally show a great interest to CBL lessons and this interest was the incentive for the given work. By observing students' enthusiasm, the medical school decided to experiment using CBLs in a foreign language classroom.
The aim of the given study was to observe how using CBLs would help foreign language learners to enhance their fluency and accuracy and the ability to start to think and discuss things in the language.
The study was conducted in eight different classes for four years. Only half of the classes were taught using CBLs. These classes showed better results in speaking and writing exams, these classes had much less absences and in the self- assessment surveys, these students sounded much more confident. Keywords:
