Abstract:

Racist incidents have been appearing in all everyday life situations and occurrences. Legislation and policies are put into place to help effectively react to racist behaviours and attitudes. Education is one key element that could efficiently help react against racism. This paper is based on the research activities produced by the BRISWA 2.0 project. In this context, a novel questionnaire was prepared and disseminated within partner universities. Participants included Universities in Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Spain. The questionnaire responses identified the viewpoints of the University students. SPSS 29 was used to process data and obtain results. The questionnaire responses were used as input to an SPSS database. Then descriptive statistics and correlation analysis took place that highlighted significant ideas, viewpoints and beliefs. It became evident that gender, occupational status, marital status, cultural background and relevant experiences with discrimination events greatly affect the views and attitudes of the survey participants. One final significant finding is the critical role of universities and educational institutions in the fight against racism. Participants state that there are more initiatives on behalf of the universities that could be implemented to improve inclusion and eradicate discrimination.
