Abstract:
The concept of competence is acquiring a key role in the educational context and especially in the process of convergence to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The competences are established habits, not sporadic behaviors or skills that appear in moments of crisis. These competences acquire special importance in postgraduate students, which are those more specialized and those who will be developing positions with more responsibility. On the other hand, the competences have to be valuable behaviors for other professionals. In this point we want these competences to be transferred to the society in a tangible way and not only as part of an academic process. Updated tools for their assessment have turned out to be essential in this new teaching-learning scenario. The learning based on competences promotes the gathering and evaluation of a range of evidences from the student, which provides a wider and more realistic view of their competences acquisition. The aims of the current study was to develop a series of workshops to promote the formation in competences, highlighting the instauration of professional competences as a distinctive contribution in the context of the system of higher education, promoting strategies to improve the developing of transverse competences and the employability of degree and postgraduate students. The project aims to encourage the design of innovative strategies and tools that respond to the employer needs and promote the development, assessment and certification of key competences of the students. In addition we have created a rubric as a system of evaluation in competences. The obtained results, allow us to confirm that the development of graduate and postgraduate programs based on competences contributes with positive elements to guarantee the academic quality and to the change of academic system that implies its development, becoming an alternative to correct the deficiencies of the traditional university system.
