Abstract:
Being able to link the project of the subject that a student is taking with a real problem in his or her environment is a task that many universities propose in order to improve the results in their training. This work collects the experience of a group of mechatronic engineering students from the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Laguna campus, who carried out the project "Design of a system for measuring the weight and height of stabled bovine cattle", as an integral part of the subject of Microcontrollers, from the seventh semester of their career. Through a hybrid format of knowledge acquisition in conferences and labs on the one hand, and project-based teaching on the other, students were linked to a real problem delivered by a training partner from the region. The experience allowed them to manage new knowledge related to the situation that was presented to them (needs of the training partner and establishment of the technical requirements of the project), and to apply what they had learned through the construction, assembly and testing of a functional prototype.
