Abstract:
The article researches the issue of pragmatic adaptation of texts of economic content translated from English into Russian so that to make a certain effect on the recipient of a translated text similar to the pragmatic effect on the recipient of the original text in accordance with the conception of the originator. When translating a text, the translator takes into account the type and the function of the text, the targeted recipient of the message, the background knowledge of the recipient. Translating professional texts, the translator’s assignment is to transfer the scientific information to the recipient as accurately as possible and the pragmatics can be only applied to a small extent. As a result, the correlation between the pragmatics of the original text and the pragmatics of the translated text can vary. In translating nonprofessional economic texts, the translator implements pragmatics of the translated text, taking into consideration differences in cultures, languages, history, background knowledge of recipients of the original and the recipients of the translated texts. The author shows several translation methods, which can be recommended to students of nonlinguistic universities studying English for specific purposes.
