Abstract:
Who doesn’t like to hear a story? Telling a story is an art that has been passed down through the ages. In today’s world of constant change and innovation, the Story Map App is an innovative visual tool that can be used in a classroom to narrate historical events, narrate a story of a place, display trends or patterns of significant events and yet be contextualized in geography. This presentation shows how to build and effectively tell your story by using the App. The design of the story map involves a number of steps. The Esri Story Map application has a variety of templates and one can choose the most appropriate template for the story. The Story Map Tour for example, allows for the presentation of a group of photographs, or videos which are labeled with captions, and are linked to an interactive map. This template is most suitable for a sequence of events or places that have a certain order. There are other templates including a customized story map that are developed for certain projects. The author will present a story map on the Galapagos Islands and how it can be used in the classroom to introduce science concepts and learn the geography of the place.
