Abstract:
New grade plans adapted to Bologna have been included in the University School at Forestry Engineering (in the Technical University of Madrid) this year. These new plans imply new ways of teaching and learning and involve important changes in University.
Our School has tried to incorporate these changes from the first day, and has prepared a special Welcoming Session divided into two days.
First day included three main targets: Knowing each other. This initial target was covered by a coach session where a professional Coach organized special activities in order to facilitate communication; Knowing professional activity. The new Grade is a new offer and students should identify differences among the different studies. And finally Knowing our School and that implied specific activities: investigation, journeys, sports, theater, Moodle support and getting familiar to different places: library, informatics classroom.. and Specific programmes for new students: Tutoring Programme and Mentoring Programme. Mentoring project aims to develop a guidance and assistance programme for new students, including first-year and ERASMUS students. This activity is carried out by more senior students, under the supervision of lecturers. The MENTOR programme is set up to help and prepare guide mechanisms for new students, to ensure the continuation and success of their university studies and to help them integrate into university both academically and socially.
Tutoring Programme is being included this year for the first time, and its main purpose is to make students grow in responsibility and as a person, and it is carried out by teacher supervision.
Second day target was focused on first year activity, and that implied Knowing laboratories, and what they were going to learn; Using moodle ( informatics application) and new students had to answer a test about expectations, welcoming sessions…, and finally we prepared a Conference about professional future, trying to make it very practical. Keywords:
