Abstract:
Many students are drawn to online learning due to the convenience of access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Faculty may include synchronous activities to enhance student engagement. However, this can be a challenge to students in different time zones and with different schedules. An asynchronous interactive learning exercise was introduced into online leadership and management courses for both pre- and post-licensure nursing programs. Students viewed a video and then provided a video response. After the responses are in, each student is given three pairs of colleague videos to rate and review. The rating led to a leader board to include a bit of competition into the activity. In addition to content, students learn from their peers and an expert. Further skills of this activity include articulating a response and providing constructive feedback. Both students and faculty assessment of the technology for engagement and course outcomes will be presented. In addition, differences and similarities between pre- and post-licensure groups will be included.
