Abstract:
Changes in the paradigms of teacher-student communication as well as the implementation of semi-presential and virtual subjects have given rise to the need to search for and incorporate new communication tools into teaching work. The deepening and assimilation of concepts by students is no longer limited to the memorization of texts and the resolution of typical problems, but the new economy of the digital age demands the search for information in an environment of excess information and where work is virtualised. Knowledge is at the click of a button and in real time, updating itself instantly in accordance with a changing environment in a globalized world.
In this work we present a project to implement virtual platforms in the following subjects of the University of Almeria for the 2018/2019 academic year:
- Economy of the European Union of the Degree in Economics.
- Co-development and Local Development Policies and Instruments in the Master's Degree in Sustainable Local Development and Co-Development.
- Complement for the Disciplinary training in Economics, Business and Tourism in the Master's Degree in Secondary Education.
The integration of all the resources (audio, video, graphics, photographs, etc.) in a single information platform transforms these subjects into digital libraries, with a virtual communication component that must be managed specifically to enable student-teacher feedback. In this way, a bottom-up learning process is achieved, in which the students are the owners of their own learning process. For example, the availability of educational videos allows the student to assimilate the lesson at his or her own pace, allowing the student to pause at those points that are difficult to understand. The teaching will be completed with the proactive attitude of the teacher, guiding the students and clarifying their doubts.
The methodology focuses on the development of weblogs as a technique for teaching innovation. Students interact with this platform as if it were a learning diary in which they record their experience with the subject, as an informal conversation in which they express their thoughts, feelings and connections with other disciplines. In this way, a bottom-up process of enrichment of the subject is established, where students have the opportunity to be active members in the creation of knowledge, enhancing their abilities in reading, writing and, in short, in interactive communication with their environment.
We consider that educational projects based on Information and Communication Technologies are a safe bet for a future in which everything will be digitized. The educational application of weblogs has traditionally been linked to teaching branches related to communication or foreign languages. We want to break with this dynamic and apply this educational model in other areas such as economics, local development and even pedagogy itself, gathering and analysing the experience in order to draw conclusions that shed light on the application of this tool.
