Abstract:
Spain presents an outstanding position of Business Schools in rankings. This is not the case for Spanish Universities. Variations in the way Universities and Business Schools are managed may explain differences in results. Although both kind of Institutions count on with proper information technology, human and organizational resources, the way they are combined in the different academic models vary. Business Schools develop abilities to develop dynamic capabilities that position them in a better situation at rankings. This research analyses four different kinds of dynamic capabilities: sensing the market, absorption, integration and innovation capability. Through a description of main academic processes in both Universities and Business Schools, the main organizational and coordination mechanisms to reach the four capabilities are identified and main critical success and failure factors are analyzed. The discussion explains which kind of organizational routines Universities should pay attention to in order to increase efficiencies. Results can make universities think about the importance of properly combining of resources to reach capabilities that may improve their results.
