Abstract:

The world is changing extremely fast. It is full of challenges and insecurity not only for the human being, but for a each individual country as well. The advent of deep civilizational changes has left their mark on the international relations and the efforts to keep peace and security in the changeable times we are living in.

The security environment is more than ever characterized by a continuing deepening and building up of crises of different nature. On the one hand, there still is a war between Russia and Ukraine and the NATO, USA and EU, on other hand – a “commitments” to other regional conflicts, hybrid and cyber attacks, terrorism, the ecological and climate problems, migration, the growing authoritarianism, deterioration of democratic principles and processes in the world.

Education has always been one of the most important factors for the development of society. Even today, although facing a number of challenges in today's conditions of growing uncertainty, it is no exception, on the contrary – education is becoming increasingly important for the development and validation not only of the individual and his/her realization, but also for the processes related to the progress and development of societies as a whole.

The current study proposes a innovative model of university education in national security, as a basic part of the implementation of the new National Scientific Program "Security and Defense", which involves nine Bulgarian educational and scientific institutions – Institute of Defense in the Ministry of Defense, Military Academy, University of Library Studies and Information Technologies, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Academy of the Ministry of Interior, All Military Schools and University of National and World Economy.
