Abstract:
The George Washington University implemented Apple's Final Cut Server to serve as the backbone of a video recording initiative, meant to make available recordings of events at The George Washington University's Elliott School of International affairs. The Elliott School is a dynamic community where students, faculty, and policymakers interact in a number of captivating and cutting edge analytical forums, and capturing these events allows interested students, faculty, and the engaged public around the world to have access to the breadth and depth of this exclusive content previously locked away in multiple silos. During the design phase of this implementation, however, there was a missing link between Final Cut Server and the PHP/MySQL web application (hosted in a different environment) that completed the video work flow from capture to website video gallery. A creative, scalable and standards based solution, was devised to automatically make the media center web application aware of and serve videos that reached the end of the workflow, which would eventually end up automating multiple university functions in pursuit of access to relevant academic content in an innovative fashion.
