Abstract:
In the face of the current information revolution, the constant search for information has become commonplace and routine; however, given the variety and large amount of information available, choosing the most appropriate information to solve our problems effectively, demands the development of new skills that allow us to manage information more efficiently.

Educational institutions and teachers must be sensitive to the demands that society makes on students. In this context, a training program has been developed for high school and undergraduate teachers in Mexico and Chile. The objective of the diploma is to introduce teachers to a specific techno-pedagogical model so they may reflect on their teaching practice and their use of ICTs. The first module of the diploma course aims to establish a common language with teachers in the competencies outlined in the revised techno-pedagogical model; one of these is information literacy. The second module supports teachers in putting the revised strategies into practice, in their context and with their students.

The teachers' reflection on the strategies for searching and organizing information supported by ICTs begins with the analysis of the way their students search for information and comparing it with the proposal of the Gavilan method to solve information problems; with this information the teachers must make a proposal to use the Gavilan method in their teaching practice. Teachers are then invited to explore three tools that can help them to organize the results of an investigation. To close this reflection, teachers should put into practice what they have learned by solving an information search problem, where they should look for a scandalous article that circulates in social networks, select the sources that, in a solid way, allow them to assert or discard the selected article and organize the information found using one of the tools explored.

This paper describes how teachers have promote Information literacy skills in their students. The strategy described in this paper has been used in five editions of the diploma, with teachers from Mexico and Chile between 2015 and 2019.
