Abstract:
The University of Antwerp gives UFOO (Universitair Fonds voor OnderwijsOntwikkeling, i.e. a university fund to enable innovation in educational practices and programmes in the different faculties and institutes.) funding through UFOO projects to stimulate innovation in educational practices. The UFOO project allows the two faculties FAE (Faculty of Applied Economics) and FMHS (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) to realise its vision and its main objectives, such as different realisations in the area of Digital and Blended Learning and Teaching (DBLT).

The two faculties wish to address the heterogeneous incoming and ongoing students by creating a wide range of digital learning material such as video tutorials and digital modules. Moreover they want to use digital technology to develop key competences across the curriculum with a focus on research skills and academic writing and more programmes-specific skills. The quality of these digital educational resources is constantly monitored.

To collect and group digital learning material and stimulate technology-enhanced learning, FAE developed the TEW Learning Channel ECLIPS which is embedded in Blackboard and is available for all the students and lecturers of FAE as from the academic year 2017-2018. It currently contains more than 200 video tutorials and 10 digital modules which will improve the processing of the knowledge that students are expected to have and will give them the necessary key competences across the curriculum. Video tutorials in the eight different learning tracks will help all students to improve the processing and understanding of the study material and will give lecturers a clear view of what the students are supposed to know and how they get to see study material in other courses of other departments within the Faculty. These video tutorials are in-house made or existing tutorials which are carefully selected by the lecturers. The coming years this Learning Channel will be gradually filled up with more video tutorials to cover all eight learning tracks. The TEW Learning Channel will not only be used to improve the competences of the ongoing students, but this will also give lecturers the opportunity to spend more time on new material instead of revising knowledge that students are already expected to have.

Even though ECLIPS targets lecturers and students of FAE, it is also a good practice and makes cooperation between other faculties of the university possible. FMHS made a copy of the platform by adopting several tutorials and modules - relevant for this faculty - and added programme-specific video tutorials such as medical and technical skills and communication skills.
