Abstract:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently impacting all levels of society. Some have expressed positive feelings of its impact and others have expressed their concerns or negative attitudes. One area in which the positive and negative impacts are divided and faces various challenges is in the area of higher education and more specifically in computer science education courses. Generative AI is influencing higher education and has impacted curriculum and program changes. There have been many changes and improvements that higher education has taken to ensure that students are using AI and more specifically generative AI in an ethical way. Various curriculum changes include AI majors, concentrations, minors and courses that can be taken by anyone interested in learning about AI.
Many new courses are being developed to enhance curriculum and core studies to provide both computer science majors and the general student body a chance to learn AI necessary for their future studies and career paths. This presentation will show many of the ways that higher education is implementing policies and practices to ensure that AI is being used ethically. It will also discuss the training that is being implemented to faculty and staff to ensure that they can recognize when AI is not being used ethically and to help them implement AI into their courses and ensure that AI is being used responsibly. It will also discuss the benefits of using AI in higher education and the challenges that are faced with AI giving perspectives from students and faculty. Keywords:
