Abstract:
During the period of 2018 – 2019, in line with the informative notification “Proposals for Providing a Conceptually New Complying with the Requirements of Competence-based Teacher Education in Latvia” different-level new study programs in the field of education were developed. Oriented towards research-based higher education, improvement of study quality towards lessening the fragmentation of study programs, consolidation of resources and their joint use, its content was worked out by the academic staff of four Latvian higher education institutions working in close cooperation. The developed, initially identical, study programs in every higher education institution were improved according to the present experience gained in teachers’ training as well as current needs.

Within the frame of this research, the quality assessments of the expert commissions on strong and weak points of study programs implemented in Latvia (two study programs of professional higher education, four study programs of the first-level professional higher education, eight professional bachelor study programs, four academic master study programs and one joint doctoral study program) as well as recommendations for their further successful development were analysed. By using the method of thematic analysis, the directions of a further improvement of new developed education study programs were determined in the context of transformations in teachers’ training.
