Abstract:

The story about the Shammies is well known for children in Latvia, Estonia and other countries, but to make this story more attractive and to ensure learning of reading, math, science and social skills there was developed the project during which the Shammies story was made in audiobook which can be used together with digital pen to make the learning multidimensional for preschools children. The project goal was to develop attractive and fun audio-learning materials that bring more children to participate in education and help social integration of children in Estonia and Latvia. The objective of this project is to jointly develop audio-learning materials supporting early childhood education and care for children from age 2 to compulsory school age. Both countries’ have less than 70% local language speaking people and it is seen that the percentage will decrease largely. This type of cross-border cooperation is essential for helping both countries with social integration matter, support early childhood education for local children whose first language is Estonian or Latvian, but more importantly for children from families who use different language in everyday communication. It is important not only in the discourse of multinational post-soviet societies but also in the discourse of migration. Audio-learning materials will use methodological approach to teach support development of basic skills competencies (knowledge, skills and attitude) for the children in the local language in by using attractive methods, to ensure that all children are interested in learning – including children from families of other nationalities, children with learning difficulties and even children with special needs.

The audiobook was developed and the first prototype was tested according to specific criteria in Latvia and Estonia. The results will be presented in the paper.
