Abstract:
Music education is a distinctive, empirically supported domain that fosters inclusion across diverse educational contexts. Its multimodal character enables access to learning for pupils with a wide range of special educational needs, including cognitive, sensory, emotional, and social differences. In inclusive settings, music functions not merely as an aesthetic or expressive activity but as a structured pedagogical medium that supports communication, social participation, self-regulation, and the development of executive and emotional competencies. This contribution examines music education as a core element of inclusive pedagogy, drawing on contemporary interdisciplinary research in special education, music psychology and music education. Particular attention is paid to its application in formally integrated classrooms and residential childcare settings, where music-based interventions can foster identity formation, resilience, and a sense of belonging among children at risk of social exclusion. The paper synthesises findings from recent studies and practice-based evidence demonstrating that carefully designed, adaptive music education strengthens peer relationships, reduces barriers to participation, and enhances well-being and engagement in learning processes. Methodologically, the paper adopts a qualitative-interpretative approach supported by selected case examples from inclusive educational environments. The analysis foregrounds the teacher’s role in adapting musical activities to individual needs, the importance of a safe and responsive learning climate, and the value of culturally responsive repertoires. The findings support the view that music education should be recognised not as an auxiliary subject, but as a strategic and indispensable component of inclusive pedagogy. In an increasingly diverse and rapidly transforming society, music education offers a dynamic and adaptable platform for cultivating empathy, cooperation, and intercultural understanding from an early age. Its future-oriented role lies in its capacity to respond sensitively to social change while strengthening inclusive values that will shape more equitable and cohesive educational communities. Keywords:
